In Alta Guajira: Cerrejón Foundation for Water in La Guajira donates tanks for Potable Water Storage

Responding to the need for storing water that communities affected by the drought in Alta Guajira have, Cerrejón Foundation for Water in La Guajira , in coordination with Cerrejón’s Social Management Division and Cerrejón’s Protection Division, made a donation of 20 tanks for storing potable water to the same number of families.

The prioritization of those communities that were benefited has been made by the Social Management Division. With that, all Wayuu indigenous families of the rural area of the Municipality of Uribia were attended; 11 families of the Jiichipaa community, 6 of Jamcheru>u and 3 in Media Luna.

The purpose with the provision of these tanks, which hold up to a 1,200-liter capacity each, is to improve the water storage capacity of the rural communities and to avoid the long walks for searching for and transporting the water.

With this measure, Cerrejón Foundation for Water in La Guajira continues to add to the different initiatives undertaken in the department for improving storage systems and attending the lack of supply of the liquid that is currently being faced by rural communities, for which having access to the “water” resource has became today more than ever a matter of survival.
