Citizens of the municipality of Albania and members of Organización Juvenil Recreamos of Barrancas will reveal the results of two citizen social control projects conducted on programs financed with the royalties of their respective municipalities under the advisement of Fundación Cerrejón para el Fortalecimiento Institucional on Thursday, March 10.

The Cerrejon Foundation for Institutional Strengthening of La Guajira and Universidad de La Guajira will formalize the signing of the agreement for the “Construction of Digital Stories,” which will be implemented under the program of Youth for the Future of Royalties, on Tuesday March 1.

After a rigorous nomination and selection process, 77 leaders of the towns of Barrancas, Riohacha and Uribia will begin the learning process as Conciliators in Equity, implemented by the La Guajira Chamber of Commerce and the Cerrejon Foundation for Institutional Strengthening of La Guajira.

Community inspectors and leaders from the municipalities of Albania, Hatonuevo and Barrancas, associated to the Social Control of Royalties project did enhance their knowledge on this issue after receiving training by a consultancy group on Social Control and Citizenry participation, under the initiative being implemented by Cerrejón Foundation for Institutional Strengthening of La Guajira.

The article “Drama and poverty in the midst of wealth” by journalist Hugo Leones Carranza, from the newspaper Diario del Norte, won the II Award for the Best Report on the Management of Coal Royalties and their Social Oversight in the Department of La Guajira. The award was convened by the Cerrejón Foundation for Institutional Strengthening in La Guajira in the framework of the VIII Cerrejón Departmental Journalism Contest.
